Avandia Multi-District Litigation Proceeding

The law firm of Searcy Denney filed yet another lawsuit in state court in Palm Beach County against the manufacturers of Avandia.

This individual lawsuit was filed on behalf of a 71 year old retired receiving manager and his wife who are residents of Palm Springs. The claim will likely be removed to federal court and transferred to Multi-District Litigation 1957, the consolidated proceedings for thousands of Avandia claims which is pending in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This local resident took Avandia for more than a year before being hospitalized with congestive heart failure and significant progression of his heart disease, which led to invasive surgeries, repeat hospitalization, significant complications, and permanent injuries and damages.  In recent weeks, GlaxoSmithKline, the manufacturer of Avandia and Avandamet, has begun settling many of the pending lawsuits in the MDL proceedings and in state court proceedings in Philadelphia.  However, there are still several hundred cases pending in the MDL as well as several thousand cases pending in coordinated state court proceedings in California.
