Yet Another DePuy Lawsuit Filed
Another DePuy ASR hip implant lawsuit was filed this week against DePuy Orthopaedics and its parent company, Johnson & Johnson. This lawsuit was filed on behalf of a 61 year old woman who lives on a farm near Gainesville, Florida. She had the misfortune of being implanted with not just one, but two, recalled DePuy ASR hip implant devices in 2007. Both of the ASR implants were defective and failed within a few years of implantation. She has spent much of the past 18 months enduring two revision surgeries and numerous complications.
This individual lawsuit against DePuy has been filed in the pending MDL proceedings in Toledo, Ohio (MDL No. 2197 styled DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc, ASR Hip Implant Products Liability Litigation before Judge David A. Katz in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio). The number of filed lawsuits in the nationally coordinated litigation over defective DePuy ASR hip implants is now approaching 5,000, and it is anticipated that the pace for filing new lawsuits against DePuy will increase exponentially over the next few weeks in anticipation of the two-year anniversary date of the DePuy ASR recall in August of 2010.
